What is a Hardware Security Module (HSM)? A Hardware Security Module (HSM) is a hardware device that provides a secure environment to enable the automatic and unattended submissions of payment files to BACS. HSM is a security option for use with REIMS solutions as an alternative to smart card. REIMS Payment Management Server for HSM and REIMS Payment Management Bureau have received approval from BACS to provide automated submission services for BACSTEL-IP with the four major HSM suppliers: Eracom Technologies, nCipher, Thales and SafeNet.
